About KNHS
Equestrian is a growing sport in the Netherlands. The Royal Dutch Equestrian Federation, the KNHS (Koninklijke Nederlandse Hippische Sportfederatie) is, with over 212,000 members, one of the largest sport federations in the Netherlands. The KNHS attends to the interests of the affiliated associations and equestrian athletes so that they can practise their sport in the best possible way. Eight equestrian disciplines are affiliated to the KNHS: dressage, show jumping, eventing, endurance, carriage driving, driving, vaulting and reining. Nationally the KNHS is affiliated to the NOC*NSF and internationally to the international equestrian federation Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI).

The Netherlands boasts approximately 1 million equestrian sport fans of whom 450,000 are active athletes. The majority practise recreational equestrian sport. The most important motives which attract people to equestrian sport are the association with animals and closeness to nature. Equestrian athletes in the Netherlands have a rather clear profile. The average equestrian athlete is young (42 per cent under 20 years); 80 per cent is female; their prosperity is slightly above average and 20 per cent has their own pony/horse.
